What Motor Vehicle inspections are available at Auto Assured Ltd?
Ans:

  • Roadworthiness Report  for Insurance Purposes only
  • Brief Mechanical Inspection  for Sale /Purchase/Finance purposes

What is the difference between Road Worthiness inspections and Brief Mechanical Inspection?
Ans :

Roadworthiness Inspection for Insurance purposes covers:-

  • Basic inspection to confirm the vehicle is roadworthy i.e. safe to drive on the road
  • Appearance and accessories
  • Road test - length subject to traffic and road conditions.

Brief Mechanical Inspection:

  • This is more detailed than the roadworthiness report as it checks  the mechanical and electrical functions of the vehicle
  • Defects and performance of the vehicle
  • Appearance and accessories
  • Road test - length subject to traffic and road conditions

What is included in the Auto Assured Roadworthiness Inspection?
Ans:

  • Body Exterior – Glass, Bumpers, operation of  door locks, body damage, Corrosion, etc
  • Engine Compartment -  Coolant level , drive belts, external leaks, fumes/smoke
  • Electrical Controls -  Lights, Indicators, internal and auxiliary lights, horn, wipers etc
  • Interior Luggage Compartment- Steering wheel alignment , seat adjustment, seatbelts
  • Front and Rear  Suspension – Engine underside leakage, steering joints, ball joints, chassis members , corrosion – floor chassis
  • Clutch/Transmission Manual /Auto – Drive Shaft assembly
  • Exhaust  and Fuel System – Pipes , leaks

What is included in the Assured Brief Mechanical Inspection?
Ans: The Assured Brief Mechanical includes everything that is in the Roadworthiness inspection plus:

  • Body Exterior - Panel condition and alignment, paintwork, bumpers, soft top-operation and condition.
  • Electrical checks - Mirrors, Heater/fan controls, Air Conditioning operation
  • Interior - Steering wheel, Seat upholstery, Luggage/Door trim panels, door fittings/operation, Door seals hinges, Interior seals, Visors, Dash panel condition, Cigarette Lighter, Illumination lights.
  • Suspension/steering - Corrosion protection.
  • Other - Auto changes/kick down, 4WD operation, Steering effort, Hot restarting.
  • Road test
  • Written report.

Can you tell me more about the Auto Assured of the Pre Accident /Theft /Fire/Repair Inspection service?
Ans:  Auto Assured Specific Components and the Pre-Accident /Fire/Theft/Repair inspections are for vehicles with After Repair, Electrical, Mechanical, Paintwork, Accident Pre & Post repair issues. The inspection is a visual inspection unless the customer wants a particular part looked at. If this is the case, the responsibility for arranging for this is at your own expense and liability and the engineer will then give his opinion. THE ENGINEER WILL NOT DISMANTLE ANY PARTS.

What is not included in the motor vehicle inspections that Auto Assured Ltd conducts ?
Ans:-  

  • Computerised operating systems
  • Satellite navigation testing
  • items that rely on microprocessors for their operation
  • Dismantling of any parts.

Can the Vehicle be inspected without a valid Insurance Certificate?
Ans: NO
However in the event that insurance certificate is not available KG plates will suffice in the case of grounded vehicles. If the vehicle does not have a KG plate, a valid Insurance certificate or in the opinion of the inspecting engineer the vehicle is un-roadworthy the road test will not be carried out.

How long does it take to have a motor vehicle Inspection?
Ans:
Inspection takes minimum of 1 hour, assuming that customers arrive at inspection location ( Auto  Assured Ltd ) on time. Inspection may take longer than 1 hour if due to other factors beyond the engineers control or if the customer is late.
*However Auto Assured Ltd reserves the right to reschedule the inspection due to circumstances beyond their control 

What are the steps in the inspection Process?
Step 1: Once you confirm an inspection booking, all customers are expected at the inspection site ( Auto Assured Ltd premises link) 10 to 15 minutes before the respective booking time for purposes of payment and filling out the inspection request form.
Step 2: Once the customer has completed the Inspection Request form  the Engineer will take a few minutes to review the documents presented (log book copy or purchase documents ) before commencing with the inspection.
PLEASE NOTE: At this point if there are any issues or concerns they will be raised by the Engineer. The Engineer reserves the right to cancel an inspection at this point subject to any problems/issues being raised by the Vehicle documents check and the location of vehicle. Specific inspections are arranged at a mutually convenient time to all parties.

How long is the road test?
Dependent on location and engineer's judgment, with a maximum of 8kms around the location of inspection.

Why must I have the Motor Vehicle Registration Book ( Log Book ) to proceed?

Ans: Part of the service is a vehicle document check that provides a report into the history of the car ensuring that it has not previously been classed as a write off or stolen etc. This can only be done with the provision of the Log book.

Does Auto Assured conduct Car Data Check?
Ans: NO, Auto Assured does not conduct Car Data Checks. Please note that we cannot under any circumstances accept responsibility for any loss you may incur in the event that an adverse history to the vehicle is subsequently revealed.

Do engineers work out of hours?
Ans: It is dependant upon location and engineer availability.

Does the customer have to be present at the inspection?
Ans:
No. The customer can designate a 3rd party to present the vehicle on their behalf. The Third party designated however must be able to answer pertinent details required during the pre inspection.  Our engineers can also arrange inspection details with the vendors or garages where required.

If a problem arises after the inspection has been done ?
If the engineer didn't notice a problem put your concerns in writing to Auto Assured Ltd Car Inspections, Mtito Andei Road, off Lenana Road , P.O. BOX 267-00100 OR  EMAIL : inspect@autoassured.com where the issues will be investigated.

The car is more than 15yrs old, can you inspect it?
Ans: YES

What areas can you carry out motor vehicle inspections?
We conduct inspections in Nairobi only, however on special request and subject to availability of engineers we can perform inspections in major towns in the following Provinces Nairobi, Central, Nyanza, Western , Eastern and Rift Valley. Customers will be responsible for meeting all out of office expenses as quoted by Auto Assured Ltd within the specific geographical region.

Do you inspect motor vehicles within the Central Business District?
Ans: YES we do but the payment for any parking or storage charges due for the vehicle being inspected and the engineer's vehicle is the customers responsibility and will be charged appropriately.

Do you open up and check the engine?
Ans: NO. We only provide a visual inspection and can not dismantle any parts. In many situations the experienced engineers will be able to tell you of any problems from the visual inspection, the sound of the engine and the road test.

Can I book an appointment time for the inspection before paying?

Most inspections are carried out within 4 - 5 working days, subject to availability of engineers.

When are you open?
Ans: 
Customer services - Monday to Friday 8.00 am - 4pm, Saturday 8a.m to 1pm  Making an Inspecton Booking - available 24 hours.

Can I pay by cheque?
Ans:  We only accept cheques from customers who have made previous arrangements with the management.

Can I pay by credit card ?
Ans: We do not accept credit cards from any customers at this time.

How will the report be sent to me?
Ans: Our reports are available for self collection or courier delivery within the main commercial areas. The inspection report can also be couriered up country on request. Customer will be required to meet the upcountry courier costs. We do not deliver to residential areas.      

Can my inspection fees be refunded?
Ans:

  • Inspections at Auto Assured Ltd Premises:
    Only In the event of cancellation before the inspection is conducted , a full refund is available. Should that cancellation take place after the inspection is conducted, No refund will be available.
  • Inspections out of Office
    Should the cancellation take place for an out of the office inspection after the engineer reports to the inspection location the total out of office charge will be payable ( as per quotation)

Are there any guarantees?
No this Inspection confirms the condition of the vehicle at the time of inspection.

Do you inspect new and used imported vehicles?
Ans: Yes, the inspection is based on the Kenyan Market price.  For unregistered vehicles the engineer will require to inspect the importation/ purchase documents.

Can you inspect disability cars?
Ans: NO.

Does Auto Assured inspect Horse Boxes?
Ans: No, However we can inspect locally manufactured trailers and customer will be required to provide all relevant documents (purchase/fabrication etc)

Do you inspect Heavy Commercial Vehicles e.g. Prime Movers?
Ans: Yes, we do.
